The
Conservancy for Charles County is the only nonprofit land trust dedicated
exclusively to the preservation of special landscapes in Charles County,
Maryland. We work to save open space, farmland, forests, wetlands, natural
habitats, and historic assets.
Founded
in 1996 as a membership organization, the Conservancy is recognized by
the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) charitable tax-exempt organization
and is registered with the Maryland Secretary of State.
Membership
dues, donations, and grants provide the financial support for our land
preservation efforts.
The
Conservancy is affiliated with the national Land Trust Alliance and has
adopted the comprehensive ethical and technical guidelines embodied in
its newly revised publication, Land Trust Standards and Practices.
We maintain a close working relationship with the Maryland Environmental
Trust, a quasi-public land trust in the Department of Natural Resources.
In addition, we maintain membership in the Maryland Association of Nonprofit
Organizations.
The
Conservancy is governed by an eleven-member Board of Directors. All serve
as volunteers and all reside in Charles County.
